Our Story
Pavel and Kristin met in Fall 2011 over the enticing promise of free food at UNC graduate school orientation. After hitting it off over their one free drink, they discovered their shared affinity for burrito bowls at the Chapel Hill Chipotle. The rest, as they say, is history.
Over the coming months, they discovered a shared love of Chicago, a learned love of frozen yogurt , and that graduate school is hard. Pavel and Kristin weathered the following years together by sharing home-cooked dinners and each other’s success and not-so-much-successes. Pavel showed his true love by waking up predawn and being Kristin’s #1 cheerleader during her post-collegiate racing years. He was gone most summers chasing one internship after another, while Kristin’s neuroscience ambitions kept her in windowless rooms looking at squiggly brain signals.
With two successful dissertation defenses behind them, Pavel and Kristin spent their last night in Chapel Hill the way they had met: a romantic evening over burrito bowls, and adventured across the country to finally settle down in San Francisco. Surviving the cross-country road trip and downsizing to cohabitate in an SF apartment was enough to seal the deal, and Pavel proposed in December 2016. Pavel currently works for Google as a software engineer, and Kristin is a postdoc with UCSF Neurological Surgery. The city is great professionally, but Pavel and Kristin still prefer to spend time with PB&J sandwiches hiking, kayaking, and (as of this year!) skiing.
Why Chicago? Kristin grew up in the Chicagoland suburb of Naperville, and Pavel worked for 2 years in the city after finishing his undergraduate degree at the University of Chicago. While Pavel and Kristin haven’t lived in Chicago together (yet!), they share a common love for the area, that they can’t wait to show their friends and family!
